Automatic Time Stamping with
CPC Closed Captioning Software
Special Notes for Mac OSX Leopard (10.5) users:
These notes do not apply to Snow Leopard (10.6) or Lion (10.7) users.
System requirements: When running Mac OSX 10.5, you must have an Intel 64-bit CPU such as the Core 2 Duo, Core i3/i5/i7, or Xeon series. ATS is not compatible with PowerPC (G4/G5) or 32-bit CPUs such as the Intel Core Solo or Core Duo. Most Macs shipped since 2008 have Intel 64-bit CPUs.
If your Mac has an Intel 64-bit CPU, and you have a video and text loaded in MacCaption, but the "Auto Time Stamp" menu item is still grayed out, you may need to follow these steps:
- First make sure you have the very latest version of MacCaption from our Downloads page.
- Make sure you have all the latest Mac OSX software updates by going to the Apple menu > Software Updates.
- Go into your /Applications/Utilities folder and run "Java Preferences".
- Make sure that "Java SE 6" is the top item on the list. If not, drag it to the top of the list (see image below).
- Restart MacCaption.
- Load your video/audio file and transcript into MacCaption.
- Go to Time Code > Auto Time Stamp, which should now be enabled.

Your Java Preferences should look like this, with Java SE 6 on the top.
If Java SE 6 does not appear on the list, you may need to run Software Updates again by going to the Apple menu > Software Updates. If it still doesn't work, your Mac does not meet the minimum system requirements for running ATS.
